Since 1994, Eaton Geological Consultants, LLC has successfully located hundreds of high-yielding water wells in the central Appalachians by using the scientific method in conjunction with pragmatic “old school” techniques implemented for generations. Air-borne LiDAR, stereo aerial photography, and geophysics (electrical resistiity) are some of the tools used for maximizing our success rates in identifying water-bearing zones (aquifers) for our clients.

The investment of drilling a new water well is substantial, and can cost tens of thousands of dollars in areas where groundwater is scarce. Many well drillers reporting they are having to drill deeper each decade to find sufficient water for their clients’ needs, and the cost for these services continues to increase. Dry holes are not only expensive -- they are also demoralizing for all parties involved. Often, water well sites are chosen out of convenience rather than using scientific investigations to reveal the locations of water aquifers. The good news is that geologic technologies are improving each decade, and these tools are assisting Professional Geologists in successfully finding water – at shallower depths, and with higher yields.
